Outlaw country legend, Willie Nelson, who needs little introduction, is one of the most recognized artists in country music. Nelson rose to prominence at the end of the 1960s and has a lengthy, award-winning career as a singer-songwriter. Known for hit songs like “Crazy”, “On the Road Again”, and “Always On My Mind”, Nelson has a vast catalog of songs recorded across almost every genre over the course of his career, touching on country, folk, jazz, pop, and rap.
“We’re thrilled to have such an amazing line-up including legend Willie Nelson who will be gracing the Merritt stage for the first time ever! Everyone is in for an incredible weekend and Willies performance will surely be a once in a lifetime experience,” says Kenny Hess, President of Rockin’ River Fest.
2015 Grammy Award winners for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, The Band Perry, is no stranger to the country charts. The Band Perry is composed of siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil Perry. The Band Perry’s self-titled full-length debut album was one of the biggest country hits of 2010, with the number one song “If I Die Young”. The singles “All Your Life” and “You Lie”, kept The Band Perry on the charts while they rolled out their sophomore album, Pioneer. Pioneer topped the country charts and hit number two on the Billboard 200.
Texas native and Nashville-based singer/songwriter Kacey Musgraves’ first two albums, Same Trailer Different Park in 2013 and Pageant Materials in 2015, debuted at No. 1 on Billboards Top Country Albums Chart and were met with massive critical acclaim and recognition. Musgraves has won two Grammy Awards for Best Country Song and Best Country Album, as well as CMA Awards for New Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. Musgraves just released her first holiday album, A Very Kacey Christmas, Featuring Leon Bridges, Willie Nelson & The Quebe Sisters in Oct 2016. The Kacey Musgraves Country & Western Rhinestone Revue has sold out famous venues all over the world, including the famed Royal Albert Hall in London.
In Toby Keith’s impressive two-decade career he has had many chart-topping hits including: “Red Solo Cup”, “Beer For My Horses”, “How Do you Like Me Now?” and “I Love this Bar”. He has charted sixty-one singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including twenty number one hits and twenty-one additional top 10 hits. Keith’s albums Pull my Chain, Unleashed, and Shock’n Y’all, produced three number ones each, and all of them were certified four-time Platinum.
Known for being the first country artist in 17 years to be awarded the JUNO Breakthrough Artist award and his debut single “Started With a Song”, Brett Kissel, has proven that he is the King of Country. Kissel was named the Male Artist of the Year, voted Fan Favourite, and took home his third-straight Interactive Artist of the Year Award at the 2016 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards. This December, Kissel will be the first country artist to receive the Allan Slaight honour at this year’s Canada’s Walk of Fame Gala, which recognizes “a young Canadian who is making a positive impact in the field of music.”
In the few short years they have been together, The Washboard Union have defied classification and have become one of the most exciting and talked about new bands on the Canadian Country music scene. This sextet, led by principal members Aaron Grain, Chris Duncombe and David Roberts, picked up the 2016 CCMA Rising Star and Roots Artists of the Year Awards in London, Ontario earlier this year.
